Internet drops out repeatedly throughout the day?

My internet keeps dropping throughout the day. It only drops for about a minute and I just have to reconnect but it is very frusturating when im online gaming and I am forced offline. I have cablevision and optimum online. Whenever I loose interent my cable box also stops for a second and then comes back on. Is this a power outage of some sort? I dont think its the router or modem since they are both brand new. Not sure what to do.
