How can I have internet for my desk top computer without a home phone?

I've been thinking about getting rid of my home phone and just switching to a cell phone all the time. However my internet is hooked up through the same phone line as my home phone. How do I go to just cell phones but still have internet for my computer. Maybe Wifi? I don't really know what that is... My current phone and internet provider sucks so I really want to switch. usually there are two choices for high speed - through the telephone system or through the cable system.

If you can get internet from your cable TV supplier then you can cancel your telephone and switch your internet supplier.



There are other methods such a Satellite internet or using a 3G card but this is expensive and limits the amount of information that you can download over one month.
Ask your phone company about 3G: (This tends to be relatively expensive)
