It is a website with a lot of numbers in the address.
I visited that page and did some stupid changes, and now I can't access wireless connection. I need a wire to connect to internet.
Can someone remember what numbers that page consisted of?What is this internet page where I can change wireless connections and stuff?
192.168.0.1 :-) this is the NETGEAR one, not sure about any other modem's though:P

What is the difference between regular high speed internet and high speed dial-up?
I am looking at signing up for High speed internet with Prairie online they offer $25.00 High speed dial up internet. I am currently with Mts paying $45.00 a month. Will this be using my phone line? While I'm on the internet will I not be able to use my phone? How much is the speed difference for DLing or streaming? What is the difference between regular high speed internet and high speed dial-up?
Most Telephone Service are Analog and don't interfere with High-speed Didtial Services and sometimes you need a filter to remove the static from the Analog Phone Line. Yes you can still freely use the Phone while you are cerfing the internet.
If you use Highspeed dial-up (often cheaper but not by much) your top speed is often only 56 kbps and Normal DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) runs Normally 350 kbps up and 1.5 Mbps Down. What is the difference between regular high speed internet and high speed dial-up?
yes it will be using your phone line, and it will be horribly slow compared to what you currently have both for downloading and uploading. What is the difference between regular high speed internet and high speed dial-up?
Dial-up is slow. No, you won't be able to use your phone.
Please include your current internet's speeds vs what the other person is offering (this is typically given in Mbps or Kbps). Then I can tell you how slow it is going.
And $45 a month is pretty high unless your internet is super fast (I pay $43 and get 12Mbps).
dial-up gets at its very best (ISDN on both lines at ones so that you can't use the phone while online) 128kb/s (if you have an ISDN phone line and use only one channel for internet you onl get 64kb/s but can use the phone while online, if you have a POTS line you can't do both simultaneously and get at best 56kb/s), and I don't think DSL comes with any less than 2,048kb/s these days going up to well over 20,000kb/s depending on your plan and location.

Can I have two high speed internet services in a residential home?
My dad is fixated with Telus High Speed Internet, I absolutely hate the DL/Upload speeds. I've read on countless forums that it's because they use packet-sniffing to throttle torrents.
What would you do? I upload a lot of videos to Youtube and this internet service absolutely sucks and my dad refuses to listen to reason. He even signed a 1 year contract. I wanted Shaw. What do I do?Can I have two high speed internet services in a residential home?
no you can not, ADSL runs from your local exchange to your home, you cant have two ADSL service connected at the same port at your exchange . you can always try to get a wireless service
For a second connection you wither need a full subscription to a telephone line and broadband, or a full cable service. You probably won't get much better, your actual speeds are more a function of your distance from the exchange than anything else. Can I have two high speed internet services in a residential home?
You can have two, sure...but you have to pay for it, and that begs the question of why. I would check in with the company about their DL/UL speeds, and if it isn't up to par, tell them about it. Make them live up to this contract, which, yes, was a bad idea.
I had the same problem a few months ago all you need is one high speed internet and a converter (that will turn your high speed internet into wifi) which you can buy at any electronic store. and it will go through out your houseCan I have two high speed internet services in a residential home?
call the company and ask
if not possible move out or go to the library

What do I need to connect to the internet when away from home or public internet areas?
What do I need to have to connect to the internet when away from home of other places with wi-fi? Something like wi-fi in a pocket but where do I get it and like...how does it work? My internet service is ATT%26amp;T and I'm using linskey , any other info I might need? What do I need to connect to the internet when away from home or public internet areas?
You need to buy a USB dongle or portable hotspot from a cellular carrier.
i.e. the same companies that sell mobile/cell phones.
These use the 3G or 4G network to provide you with internet on your computer.
You should check the coverage for the area you are in or plan to visit because some carriers have better coverage than others.
If you have a smartphone you might be able to use that as a portable hotspot for your laptop without buying anything extra equipment-wise.
This is also one of the more expensive ways to connect to the web - but you have no other choice of that's what you want. What do I need to connect to the internet when away from home or public internet areas?

My friend has Hughes net and obsolutely hates it. Check around with your local cell phone companies and see if they have upgraded and made cellular internet available. I have that myself and love it. It's basically a wireless router that runs off of a cell signal. I was getting 800/250 kbps download/upload speeds for $50 a month. How does wireless internet work in South Korea?
I have a macbook pro and am going to be a student in yonsei university. If I have my own apartment how do i get wireless internet service? Do I have to go personally to the company? Is it already set up standard? What are the monthly prices usually? How does wireless internet work in South Korea?
at first, in Seoul, free-wireless internet is able to use.
but you should endure, some slow speed.
and second, near university, there's another wireless service. that's free, too. and moderate speed.
most of students are using university wireless internet.
at last, though you can set LAN connection up at apt, using wireless is possible -- not that speedy.
So far is free-wireless.
so, you can pay about 20,000 won (about 18 bucks i thought) to use wireless internet.
it is the best choices to above all.
so, good luck~

What is the reason that my internet connection is randomly turning off and on?
I'm just browsing on the internet and then I will click something and then it will say page unavailable because my internet has decided to disconnect itself. It then reconnects. This happens around every 15 minutes. My router is just underneath my room downstairs so its not distance problems. What is the reason that my internet connection is randomly turning off and on?
I had a netgear with similar intermittent problems. I replaced it with a new linksys and all better now. What is the reason that my internet connection is randomly turning off and on?
it depends what kind of connection is used to connect between you and your internet provider(optic cable, wireless etc.).
I am not good to tell you which way is the best for internet connection.
It may happen because of bad weather(raining, wind and so on.)
Just call your internet provider and if they are serious, they will tell you why is it.
regardsWhat is the reason that my internet connection is randomly turning off and on?
turn the router off about a minute and turn it back on
turn the router off when you are not using the internet
if you've had the router for a good while that might be the cause

What are the effects of the internet on traditional bricks and mortar stores?
What is internet?
What is referred to as brick and mortar store
What is the advantage of the traditional brick and mortar stores over internet retail. What are the effects of the internet on traditional bricks and mortar stores?
I live in Tennessee and the sales tax here is almost 10%, so I can buy something over the internet and the shipping charge is sometimes cheaper than the sales tax.
I know some states are trying to require that sales taxes be collected on the internet, but I think requiring the sales tax over every purchase on the internet would be a monumental feat. Don't think that will happen in the next few years. That's why I even prefer shopping internet over even the shopping channels on tv......because the shopping channels charge both tax AND shipping.
I love shopping on eBay because I can normally find exactly what I was looking for and sometimes save as much as 50% on the item. I've bought around 75 items so far on eBay and I am a satisfied customer so far.
I still enjoy going to the mall and brousing in the department stores.......but if I'm planning on buying something expensive, I will probably come home and shop around on-line to see if I can find a better deal...........plus no tax.
Recently, I wanted to buy some shoes for work that cost $130 plus tax at my local store. I came home and bought them over the internet for $99 and got free shipping and no tax. Can't beat that. The shoes arrived and they were exactly as I ordered.

I think Yahoo BB is a choice. That place connects it really quit and disconnects it quit when u want it disconnect. I dont know much places that has fast internet. I once rented a application that took about a minute to load a page. Sorry i couldnt give much selections.
You'd better drop into the nearest mass home appliances retail shop with the PC to ask the clerk any suitable wire LAN system for you. Your room location to be free from any wire obstacle should also be considerable. What is the best way to get wireless internet connection that can be used at home in Japan?
I don't think you can get Internet connection in your room. Some monthly apartments have wireless LAN in their lobby.
To submit local ISP, you need a bank account or valid credit card (many foreign CC are invalid in Japan).
I think you better change the apartment.
just go to electronic store and ask...What is the best way to get wireless internet connection that can be used at home in Japan?
Most monthly apts have their own internet service, for example Leo Palace offers "LeoNet" cable TV and internet. I would be wary of any place that offered no internet at all. You need permission from the landlord to install any kind of DSL, Cable, or Fiber service, and that's unlikely to be possible in a monthly apt anyway. Public WiFi hotspots are not so common here, so I wouldn't rely on that being a possibility either.
Anyway, if you will be in a major city, you can use eMobile's unlimited wireless plan, up to 7.2mbps for 5980yen/month. However, the coverage outside of major cities is not so good, and they have some limitations: high-bandwidth applications like P2P or heavy downloading is not allowed, and the connection will automatically shut down every 6hrs (even with activity), or after 10mins of no activity.
Softbank, Docomo, and au offer data card cellular services, but they don't have unlimited service so heavy use can quickly become VERY expensive.

My dad is planning to get rid of the fastest internet from cox, but he first wants me to find out how fast it needs to be to run games like counterstrike and the new warhammer game. What is the internet speed you need to run counterstrike?
There is no limit to the internet speed you can have. Certain servers, though, will kick you from them if your ping reaches a certain point.
I play it with cable internet, and I get a good 30 ping in a good server. I don't know what kind of internet your getting, but it's very difficult, and not to mention, not fun to play Counter Strike with dial up.
Around 300 ping, the servers boot you from the server. If your getting DSL or Broadband, you should be good. If your downgrading to dial up, your in trouble.mgm grand utah weather

it depends what kind of connection is used to connect between you and your internet provider(optic cable, wireless etc.).

My internet is slow so I want to know what is the fastest way to get a video file to a friend so he can upload them to youtube for me. Thanks in advance.I have slow Internet. What is the fastest way to send a video file to a friend?
Go to the library and upload it from there. They won't complain as long as it isn't copyrighted. Verizon DSL is only $20 a month for 1MB.I have slow Internet. What is the fastest way to send a video file to a friend?
you can split the video using file splitter (winrar, hjsplit, etc) to a size tolerable for your internet connection.
then email each piece to your friend.I have slow Internet. What is the fastest way to send a video file to a friend?
This might work just upload it to the internet and send him/her the link.
Burn it to a DVD and post it to his adress and ask him to then post it on youtube....just a thought.

How do you erase history in internet explorer 8?
I have windows vista. I never had a problem with previous versions of internet explorer. I have gone to internet options and tried the normal way, and I have tried everything else. This is normally a easy task, but every time I erase my history now., it remains. Can I uninstall IE8 and try firefox now. IDK what to do now . Why is this so complicated now.How do you erase history in internet explorer 8?
Hey, this is Feran with the IE Outreach Team. Go to Tools then Delete Browsing History. Also in IE8 you can enable the InPrivate browsing mode which helps prevent your browsing history, temporary Internet files, form data, cookies, and usernames and passwords from being retained by the browser. Click 鈥楽afety鈥?and choose InPrivate Browsing.

You can just click on "Safety" in the top right of the toolbar (between Page and Tools) and select "Delete Browsing History". Then chose whether you want to delete cookies, passwords, history, temporary files, and so forth. There is a description of each underneath. I would delete temporary files and cookies as they can be ways of getting viruses. Also, InPrivate browsing is available by going to safety (shortcut: CNTRL + SHIFT + P)tess gerritsen home bars

How can I make my wireless internet faster?
I have a lynksis router. Its okay but the internet is not very fast and it often loses its connection often.
My room is in the basement so running a internet cable (which is what I would prefer) isnt an option.
Any hints to help me get a better connection, faster download speed, and overall a more reliable network connection? How can I make my wireless internet faster?
How far away are your room from the wireless router? If it is far that is why you are having a slow connection. I am sure you have a weak signal. What you can do is the go into the router and increase the signal strength strong enough to reach you but not strong enough to get out of the house. Remember if the signal have to go through a brick wall it will weaken the signal. Good luck.
First, move your Linksys away from any large metal objects, like an old refrigerator or heating ducts.
Try changing the wireless "channel" on your Linksys. If you have a 2.4Ghz cordless telephone in the house you need to test that against each wireless channel. First change to the new channel (possibly including rebooting your router), verify that your internet still works, then pick up the cordless phone until you hear a dial tone, then try to browse the web with the phone held next to your computer's wireless adapter. Continue to change the channel and test with the phone until you find a channel that works while you are using the phone.
You will have the same problem with interference even if you buy a new wireless router. Change the channels first to make sure before you buy anything new.
This thread in the linksys support forums might help: http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/鈥?/a>How can I make my wireless internet faster?
well since your in your basement you are probably getting alot of interference with the concrete and your surroundings.
What kinda wireless router do you have??
Is it a wireless G??
I would suggest going with one of the new wireless N routers, they have longer range and a faster speed. But you will also need to upgrade the wireless card in your computer to take advantage of it.

You will have to go closer to the router and other electronics will interfere

What is the internet speed you need to run counterstrike?
If your downgrading to dial up, your in trouble.

Where in the internet can I find primary source doucments of the Aztecs?
I don't know what is a primary source and where can i find it on the internet? I am confused. I need an example. Thanks for the help.Where in the internet can I find primary source doucments of the Aztecs?
Primary information is information that comes from people who lived at the time and places in which they write about. Secondary information would be information which is gathered to tell a story and give facts of a past in which the writer was not involved in.
For example, you can probably create primary information about what happened to you last weekend, or what happened and what you felt during a certain period/date in your lifetime. You, however, cannot create primary information about things that happened one-hundred years ago, or anything else that happened before you were born or not involved with. This would be secondary information because you will need to look up things from other so that you can write about it.
So, what you should be looking for are pieces of material which people in Aztec times created. That would either be Aztecs themselves, the Spaniards, Europeans, or basically anyone else who was living at the time and was able to write about it at that time.
I hope this helps you. I don't know of any specific websites, but once you know what to look for they should be simple to find. I would suggest that you look into more formal websites (.org, .edu, .gov) for primary sources. If your school provides them, suscription services can be a big help.Where in the internet can I find primary source doucments of the Aztecs?

What is considered abuse of the internet at work?
We have a policy in my company that we can use the internet for personal use so long as it does not interfere with our job. Kind of vague. My question is, if I see anyone looking at anything on the internet at work think usually think poorly. Is this true for most people? Will most employers think negatively if they see you checking email even if it's just a few minutes a day or will most employer's understand we all need 10 minutes here and there to deal with personal life/issues?What is considered abuse of the internet at work?
The abuse of the internet at work is when you're surfing the web while you can be doing work. If you have work to do and you don't do it, instead, you're buying stuff online, that's abusing the internet.
I surf the internet all day long. I have my own office and I don't have much work. Therefore, this is how I pass the day. What is considered abuse of the internet at work?
I wouldn't do it because it might make you a target for gossip and suspicion. Also the IT people at your company can see what you are doing on your computer, so it isn't private, and you would be effectively telling the world your business (I know what office gossip is like). I'd advise you to keep your business to yourself by only using your home computer. What is considered abuse of the internet at work?
Abuse is usually considered use of the internet for non-company business. Short non-company sessions for family communication, or checking weather forecast, afternoon traffic, etc, are allowed. Not permitted are such things as porn, games, shopping, job searches outside the company, or just randomly browsing. If you are getting paid to do X and you spend a lot of time not doing it because you're doing other things on the Internet, your workmates and your boss are likely to cloud up and rain all over you.

Softbank, Docomo, and au offer data card cellular services, but they don't have unlimited service so heavy use can quickly become VERY expensive.

just go to electronic store and ask...What is the best way to get wireless internet connection that can be used at home in Japan?

What is the difference between Internet security and antivirus?
Please be specific, and what is better? I really don't know what the difference is. Also, please tell me a good program, either internet security or anti-virus. Also, I need to be able to disable the anti-virus or internet security any time I want to. If you know any program, tell me. Thanks. What is the difference between Internet security and antivirus?
Internet Security suites usually include an antivirus application as well as firewall, anti malware, anti spyware, and email protection programs. It is better than standalone antivirus, but more costly.
The one with best performance and suited to you is probably Kaspersky.

Internet security is a suite including an antivirus.
My favorite free one is Avast.

Been using for over 12? years now and
still clean.
An anti virus program such as AVG is your best bet. Check if Windows firewall is running, usually that is enough for the average user.
Also check if you opened the right ports for an anti-virus program.
Make sure the remote desktop and remote assistance ports are not open under the exceptions in windows firewall.
AVG is an anti-virus program I swear by, it's awesome, and it's free. You can download it here:
(I like download.com also it is a good site I have never had any issues with the software I have gotten from this site :)
http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-鈥?/a>
You can disable the anti-virus easily at any time in the configuration menu of the AVG program.
I think of Internet Security as Windows Firewall, but that's not really much. I just run AVG and my computer runs great. I don't really worry about internet security because I have 3 firewalls either hardware or software.

Or if you can set up a second terminal from the one connection.

Before you setup a wireless network, you need to consider the dangers. Watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A88XB7_Jz鈥?/a>
They talk about using WPA or WPA2. The problem is a few years from now, WPA2 might be broken. Unlike updates for your computer, it is more difficult to upgrade to a stronger security method on wireless devices. I strongly recommend powerline. As long as you are not living in an apartment, there are no security vulnerabilities. Watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9KWdOLgy鈥?/a>

What types of internet services work with laptops?
Is wireless the only internet service that i can use without having to have my laptop plugged in?What types of internet services work with laptops?
It depends on the hardware in your computer. If you have an ethernet port, then you can connect to the internet via a wired connection, if you have a wireless card then you can access wireless internet. if you have an older 56k modem then you can connect to dial up (most likely you wont ever use this)
check your computer specs and see what your laptop supports. Most likely you have a wireless and ethernet (wired) connection. What types of internet services work with laptops?
There is only one kind of Internet service. How you get to it can vary. You can plug a wire into your computer to connect to your Network Interface Card (NIC) or you can use a wireless NIC built into your computer. Using either NIC, you connect to a network that provides you with Internet connectivity.
You can also get adapters so that you can use the cell phone system to get data connectivity (G3) but that is still relatively expensive. You can also get that connectivity through your cell phone then use a blue tooth connection between the phone and your computer.
So how's that for options?
It depends on the hardware in your computer. If you have an ethernet port, then you can connect to the internet via a wired connection, if you have a wireless card then you can access wireless internet. if you have an older 56k modem then you can connect to dial up (most likely you wont ever use this)

What is a good mobile internet express card to get for a laptop?
Right now I currently have dial up and i cant get wireless internet from a nearby tower because trees are blocking the signal (trees are not on our property). I always see commercials on express cards for laptops to get fast internet anywhere, like the rogers express card. Does anyone know what a good card to get is and a company to subcribe to? Or is it even worth it? I live in Canada. What is a good mobile internet express card to get for a laptop?

How do connect to the internet through a local network?
I live near a public library and they provide a new public wi-fi network. I have already a pci ethernet card and I have installed it on my computer. My computer says I am connected to the network and the speed is 100mbps, but when I open Internet Explorer, a page connot be displayed appears. Why does this happen? If it matters, I also have a dial-up connection. Even when I disconnect the dial-up, I still can't acess the internet through the network. What should I do?How do connect to the internet through a local network?
well your question is a bit confusing. You say its a Wi-Fi network %26amp; @ the same time you say you're connecting through a Ethernet port...
Ethernet card (port) is wire base %26amp; Wi-Fi is Radio based (wireless), What exactly did you mean??
Well say anyhow you're connected to the network, then find out if the library system uses a proxy server or anthing like that to access the internet... If so you have to manually configure it in the web browser.
in IE ==%26gt; tools ==%26gt; Internet options ==%26gt; connections ==%26gt; LAN settings ==%26gt; then enter whatever the data is provided...
there is one thing I need to ask. Did you manually gave the IP to your connections. If so you have to manually configure other stuff as DNS IP %26amp; proxy information... Or if its automatically given most of the time the DHCP will automatically assign all of them for you... But anyway YOU need to find out about these from the library service...
Cheers

when you want to access a wireless access point for internet you need to buy a wifi pci card
and then only you can use your public library's internet facility
try to buy a linksys adapterHow do connect to the internet through a local network?
more than likely the problem is that you do not have dns setup, how are you getting an IP address? if your using dhcp then it might be another problem such as whatever you are connecting to is not allowing you, but if your assigning your IP then you will need to asign a dns server IP as well, you will need to ask the library what to use for dns or better yet if they provide dhcp (if they do use that and it will setup dns for you)

Depends on the Library. How are they providing the wireless? Is it even intended for wireless use?
Ask at the Reference Desk, and you'll probably get these answers.
At my library, you need a valid library card. Opening your web browser provides a "gateway" screen, where your library card number is entered. Then you're given the right to browse whatever you like.

I have mozilla firefox and it works fine but IE won't work and I can't go onto any web page on it. What is the philosophical purpose of the internet?
This is a very modern philosophical question. Did the internet connect us around the world, or were we already connected and the internet developed to make these connections faster and easier? Is the internet the indicator of social change?
The strange thing about this question is that you have to define what does "connect" mean in a more abstract way (meaning more than calling or e-mail).
I'd like to know what you think. What is the philosophical purpose of the internet?
I think the internet helps us to distinguish between knowledge or information on the one hand and wisdom on the other, in that information is available in profusion on the internet, but this may not be knowledge because it can be inaccurate, but wisdom is not.
Concerning connection, though, i think it can work well as a counselling medium because it's immediate and faceless, rather like psychoanalysis where the analyst doesn't face the client, but this would be a particular kind of counselling. It also means we tend to make up a lot of stuff about the people with whom we are interacting because we lack a lot of real information about them. For example, how many people on the internet use a different gender? Almost all of them have different names. However, that process also leads us to create new personalities and try out new ways of being which we may later be able to do for real: for instance, we might become more assertive.
Thanks for choosing my answer. I'm making a connection with you now by typing this!
If I were to define connections first鈥? I would think that our emotions, personality and overall identity transcend from our mind, heart and soul. I feel like this dynamic flow of energy express itself as an energy field.
From Body heat to vibrations and psychic attunement, it may contribute to this very energy field that can attract others who can recognize, appreciate or identify with it. Similarly, it can also repel those whose energy field clashes with others 鈥?I can only describe such a feeling as friction.
I do think that the internet has created more feasible paths for like-minded people to find each other who may pass each other by across the street in real life. In reality, while waking up to a new day we may all feel a connection with so many people but we may not act on it in person.
I think society creates this impression that it would be inappropriate to act on an instinctual connection with any stranger. This is where I feel like the internet gives everyone that second chance to make that connection they would perhaps not have made in real life.
When the internet is less about physical appearance or physical interaction, I think then people can focus more on the connection of emotions, personalities and overall identity that fundamentally draw two people together.
yes it does connect us around the world for simple reason now that you are getting answers for your question from all parts of the world and your question can be reached to any part of the world when you want to communicate what ever you want to in a matter of seconds to any part of the world you call it as connection
that is such a fascinating question....
one that i would spend an entire term thinking about and researching.... the internet does, indeed, make connections faster, though i don't know about easier..... i think in many ways it's more difficult to communicate now than ever before. the internet is a blunt tool when it comes to matters that ...matter! most to the human heat and mind. -- to a certain degree. i think we're developing ways to fine-tune our minds ... adapting to this new technology.
the internet is like ... there is the spirit of human connection, definitely. but nothing beats a person-to-person connection.
the internet has i think manipulated our sense of awareness. and it has redefined what we call "reality." is time spent on the internet really "wasted time" as some like to think? you see how many people write blogs and the content and it's trashy and ridiculous. we have so much sorting and sifting to do.... i think we're slowly developing ways to do that. but it's slow.... thanks for your question :)

What is the best way to get Internet without a home phone or cable?
I switched from Cox Cable with whom I also had internet with and now have Direct TV. Direct TV only offers Internet if you have a home phone, which I do not. What is the cheapest way to get internet without adding a home phone? What is the best way to get Internet without a home phone or cable?
For Internet, You basically have 4 main choices.
1. Cable Internet through your cable TV company. You can get the Internet without the TV packages, but you will be charged more than the promo prices you see on TV.
2. DSL through you telephone line (if it's available in your area). Usually you have to have local service, but you can get service called "dry loop". Just DSL by itself. Again, the DSL price will be higher than you see on TV. They want you to take a bundle of services, so "dry loop" is not advertised.
3. Dial-up (Slow! Yuck! 'nuff said)
4. Satellite Internet. Not as slow as Dial-up, but you don't need to have a telephone or cable line coming into your house. Most of the people who get Satellite Internet live in remote places without good telephone or Cable TV services. (Or they are on house boats) Two things to keep in mind--- you cannot use VoIP, like Vonage and Satellite may be a very expensive start up cost.
I am Familiar with DIRECTV- they parner with local phone companies like Verizon, AT%26amp;T to give customers Internet. They also sell Satellite Internet called Wild Blue.
The only other alternative is to use free Internet at Internet cafes and the public library. I hope I've helped. What is the best way to get Internet without a home phone or cable?
If you have a laptop with a wireless adapter you could a broadband card from one of the cell companies, like Verizon, Sprint. What is the best way to get Internet without a home phone or cable?
tigersue pretty much mentioned everything, but I want to add a few points as I've dealt with all of these.
Satellite internet should be considered a LAST resort, I actually prefer dial-up to satellite internet. The problem being with satellite is you are extremely limited in it's uses. It's got very high latency, which makes using things like an xbox or online game playing almost impossible. You have ridiculously low bandwidth caps as well (most providers cap you at about 260 megs over 4 hours, which means you can't stream tv over the internet or stream netflix movies, that sort of thing without going over it completely), and most providers don't tell you when you've gone over, they just throttle your speed back to about 3.5 k a second, which is basic dial up speed, except your paying between 60 - 80 bucks a month for it. Also, if you exceed that limit, some providers throttle you at low speeds for the rest of the billing cycle. It's really expensive, and really awful.
Those wi-fi cards you can get from sprint/cricket and assorted companies also come with bandwidth caps, usually around 5 gigs. This too is very, very limited. It's faster then Sat. but also very expensive, if you go over your 5 gigs (which really is not much, even doing legal things on the internet and not dl movies and music, you'll go over this pretty quick) they charge you per MEG usually, around a quarter a meg which can add up very quick, but varies from plan to plan and provider. This is usually used to do stuff really quick, such as check email when your away from the office and such, grab small files that sort of thing. Not really recommended as your primary internet connection.
For the cost, DSL is pretty good and usually much cheaper then your typical cable connection, it's slower then cable, but depending on how much you use the internet that may not be a big deal for you.
Cable is pretty much the way to go, it's expensive, but you'll have a good and fast connection, and at least at the moment, most providers don't have any sort of cap on data transfers (some com-cast providers do however, so i'd avoid them, Time Warner is also experimenting with the idea). If cost isn't an issue, and you don't want a phone, I'd go with cable. Cox Cable however has no problem turning you in for dl copyrighted material, so if that's an issue I'd avoid them as well.
Hope that helps, let me stress this again, AVOID SATELLITE INTERNET AT ALL COST.

You can disable the anti-virus easily at any time in the configuration menu of the AVG program.
I think of Internet Security as Windows Firewall, but that's not really much. I just run AVG and my computer runs great. I don't really worry about internet security because I have 3 firewalls either hardware or software.international trucks dairy queen locations
Internet Security suites usually include an antivirus application as well as firewall, anti malware, anti spyware, and email protection programs. It is better than standalone antivirus, but more costly.
The one with best performance and suited to you is probably Kaspersky.

I just downloaded Wubi after already having Windows 7. The dualboot works great, but I can't connect to the internet at all on Ubuntu. What is the cheapest way to access internet with no phone connection?
I don't have a working phone line, and I need to access the internet. Isn't there some way I can connect to a wireless internet connection that people have in my area? I need the cheapest way to access the internet from home, NOT a laptop. What is the cheapest way to access internet with no phone connection?
Get a wireless card for your desktop and see if you can pick up any networks. If you live in an apt building, post a sign with the network names that you can pick up, and offer to pay some of their cost for allowing you to use their network.
Around 50$. Borrow one from a friend to look for networks before you go buy your own! What is the cheapest way to access internet with no phone connection?

Why does my internet connection go out everytime a door leading to the outdoors is opened and closed?
I have a DSL internet connection through AT%26amp;T and for some reason everytime a door is closed the internet connection becomes interrupted and goes out for around 2 to 3 minutes before it returns to normal. The only idea I have for this is that my old home security system is tripping the signal when the door is closed?? Any ideas are welcome if you know what the possible cause could be.Why does my internet connection go out everytime a door leading to the outdoors is opened and closed?
You could be correct - and you have no DSL filter on the security system, I'll bet. EVERY device connected to the phone line - except the DSL modem - MUST have one for DSL to work properly. Why does my internet connection go out everytime a door leading to the outdoors is opened and closed?

What is the best for internet service in a rural area wireless air card or satellite internet?
I am looking for the best route to go for internet use instead of dial up? I have heard of the air time cards and satellite internet. Which one is the cheapest and the best? Also I have three other pc's and need to use a wireless router with which ever I decide to get. What is the best for internet service in a rural area wireless air card or satellite internet?
If you want to hook up other computers, you do not want an aircard. The best options are an actual wireless modem that is offered by a local provider ex. commspeed. Otherwise you can get satellite, but it is limited download, and does have latency.

Internet Explorer-How can I set content advisor on certain accounts but not others?
I have 3 user accounts for Internet Explorer. One of them, used by a minor, is a limited account. I have blocked certain pages I don't want him visiting thru Content Advisor, which I have set a password for. This works great for the limited account, but it also affects my full access "computer administrator" account by putting the same restrictions on my account.
I know I can override the blocked pages by putting in my password, but I'd rather not if I don't have to. But if I set content advisor for one account, it is enabled for all the accounts, no matter what type it is.
How can I set content advisor on one account only?Internet Explorer-How can I set content advisor on certain accounts but not others?
Ok,this is one area where Windows Vista is usefull,Vista has a feature called Parental Controls which allows you to restict internet access for your children without affecting your own browsing, you can also produce an activity log of what sites have been visited etc.
Unfortunately it means getting Vista,Microsoft does have a
free program called Windows Live Family Safety Settings which has some usefull features but I have heard reports that is not exactly user friendly but it might be worth looking at.
Do a google search for it,I think it might still be in beta testing.
hope this helps anywayInternet Explorer-How can I set content advisor on certain accounts but not others?
The best approach for this is setting up different parental control users in your "control panel". When the computer boots up your child will have his/her own icon to log into windows....and you will have your own icon with a password to log in. Now the computer will remember all the settings within each user. I hope this isn't to confusing.
Good Luck

Do you need an internet connection to download apps to an ipod Touch?
I am planning on getting an ipod Touch but I was wondering if you need an internet connection to download apps from the apps store(I think that is what it is called?) because I'm not sure what the internet connection adds to the iPod Touch.Do you also need and internet connection to download music and movies to your iPod Touch? Please answer.Thank you.Do you need an internet connection to download apps to an ipod Touch?
I strongly disagree with all of these people. if you have itunes already then try to follow along. when you go to the itunes homepage within itunes, look at the first menu down the right side of the page, it should have the heading 'itunes store'. in this menu find 'app store', its usually at the bottom. From this part of itunes you can do many things to find the app you are looking for. the app then downloads to your ipod the same way songs do.
-for this you do need a COMPUTER with an internet connection, but since you made this post i don't think thats a problem. You can also connect to the app store over wi-fi directly from the ipod touch.
How else would you get the apps on the ipod? Maybe the ipod touch is not the right thing for.Do you need an internet connection to download apps to an ipod Touch?

How does internet access work on prepaid phones?
i'm thinking about getting a prepaid phone and i was just wondering how internet access works with that. is it just the same as regular minutes or what? i'm thinking about going with a major company. i was hoping to find something with unlimited texts and internet, or something relativily close. How does internet access work on prepaid phones?
If you go through AT%26amp;T, you can add a text and internet plan onto your pay as you go account. You you don't add this on, using your internet will drain your account in no time. I don't believe other service providers allow you to add service bundles onto their pre paid plans.

How does verizon wireless internet work and cost?
I would like to have internet that I can use when I travel. What does verizon charge? And how does this work? Is it unlimited use for internet? How fast is the internet connection? How does verizon wireless internet work and cost?
What kind of phone do you have? Or are you talking about the broadband wireless access card?
I have an EnV, and I subscribe to Vcast to get unlimited internet, Vcast access, and Get it Now! for $15/month.
If you don't mind using your minutes while you're online, there is a $5/month plan for that too.
On my phone the connection is really pretty fast, as long as the webpage doesn't have too many graphics. A lot of services have special pages made specifically for mobile access- like Gmail and facebook load very quickly are are very easy to navigate.
If you are looking for the broadband card, I don't personally use it, but I attached some links from Verizon's website as well as another Y!A question on this topic with a good answer below. There's even a place where you can "test drive" it, so maybe it will give you a feel of how fast it is? Not sure how that works. But it looks like they are charging $79/month for the unlimited access plan, which is the only one I see available.

Go to the VZW link and get started with their voice/data packages.

How do I connect my laptopt to the internet in a Wifi hotspot?
I just bought an HP Omnibook 900 with an Airlink 101 Wireless card. The previous owner said that he used the wireless to connect to the internet without any problems. So here is the question. This is my first time using a laptop with wireless, so If I am in a hotspot offering wifi (such as a bookstore), what do I need to do to connect to the internet. Should it be as simple as clicking on the internet explorer and it will automatically detect the signal and pull up , or do I have to select something on the control panel ? Right now the laptop is running Windows ME, I plan to change it to XP in the future so I can run off wireless from my home home internet provider (comcast). Can someone please tell me what I need to do to connect to the internet. Thanks. How do I connect my laptopt to the internet in a Wifi hotspot?

What is the fastest internet speed in the world?
I have recently read an article which mentioned that Uni of Buffalo has got 1 gigabit per second speed internet. Could this be true?. Please answer which is the fastest internet connection in the world? What is the fastest internet speed in the world?
A lot faster: 40 GB/s. An old swedish lady has it in her home.
(They will also upgrade it to 80GB/sec if I remember correctly.)
Although she only uses it for drying clothes and reading newspapers online. :)What is the fastest internet speed in the world?
You can check the results from google as top ten lists and you can check the speed test as free from http://www.ip-details.com/
Actually, the other posters aren't even close. Here's the breakdown:
First, Home Users:
Your Typical Dialup: 56 Kbps
Typical DSL/Cable: 640 Kbps
DS1/T1: 1,581 Kbps (1.544 Mbps)
Next, Corporate Users:
E-1: 2.048 Mbps
DS1C/T-1C: 3.152 Mbps
DS2/T-2: 6.312 Mbps
E-2: 8.448 Mbps
E-3: 34.368 Mbps
DS3/T3: 44.736 Mbps
OC-1 : 51.84 Mbps
Then, Minor TelCo (these are smaller phone companies, hosts, broadband providers, etc. This is where it starts getting ridiculous):
DS3D/T-3D: 135 Mbps
E-4: 139.264 Mbps
OC-3: 155.52 Mbps
DS4: 274.176 Mbps
E-5: 565.148 Mbps
OC-12: 622.08 Mbps
Next Major TelCo (larger phone companies, government agencies like NASA, small countries; this is where it IS ridiculous):
OC-24 1.244 Gbps (Yes, GIGAbits per second)
OC-48 2.488 Gbps
OC-192 10 Gbps
OC-256 13.271 Gbps
OC-768 39.813 Gbps
Finally, God-Class (The Internet's backbones, large countries, major, major TelCos, like AT%26amp;T; this is just staggering). Though in fairness, these are really sophisticated methods of clustering the earlier ones:
OC-3072: 1.28 Tbps
DWDM: 10 Tbps
Dense Wave Division Multiplexing- Uses 160 simultaneous beams of light in different colors to send many packets through the same lines
Cisco CRS-1--%26gt; 92 Tbps!!!
This is the Big Boy, and it CAPS OUT at 92Tb, not starts there. India (the COUNTRY) bought ONE. The router itself (around $400,000 last I checked) was codenamed HFR (Huge F-ing Router) by Cisco during development.
To put this all in perspective:
Gigabits:.... 1.0000
Megabits:... 1024.0000
Kilobits:..... 1048576.0000
Bits:.......... 1073741824.0000
Therefore, if you have a ONE Gbps connection, you can download an entire DVD at 100% quality in 36 seconds (or 32 mp3 songs per second).
